Katsina State government commensurate with Jigawa state over fire incident

Government delegation from Katsina State visited Dutse, Jigawa State on Saturday 19th October, 2024, to commensurate with the Government and people of the state over the recent fire incident at Majiya town of Taura Local Government area of Jigawa state. 

The team was headed by the Deputy Governor of Katsina State Malam Farouk Lawal (Sarkin Fulanin Jobe).

While speaking to the pressmen at Government House Dutse. According to Malam Farouk Lawal, he was at Dutse at the instance of the state governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON.

The Deputy Governor described the incident which claimed about 200 lives as great loss not only to Jigawa State but to the nation at large, as it affects a large portion of our youth whose services are dearly needed by the nation.

He then expressed sympathy on behalf of the state governor to the affected community over the lives and properties lost to the fire incident. 

Malam Farouk Lawal Governor then called on the people and government of Jigawa State, particularly the Majiya community to take heart and accept the tragedy with good faith.

Malam Jobe said " our hearts are with people of Majiya town and we are personally touched by the the unfortunate fire incident. May Allah's mercy be with the soul of the deceased and we pray for a quick recovery to those who sustained various degrees of injuries".

While speaking on behalf of Northern Governors, Gombe State Governor, His Excellency Muhammad Inuwa yahaya, also described the fire incident as a great tragedy and a very big loss to the country 

He said " we are here as Northern governors to  express our deepest commensurate to the entire people of Jigawa state. We pray may Allah give you the fortitude to bear the loss and the courage to face the challenges ahead in this trying period".

He further said "devastation situations like this need support to ameliorate the sufferings of people affected. He then announced a donation of Fifty Million Naira (N50m) from each of the Northern state government.

Earlier in his address  AIG rtd Chris Oke on behalf of Emeka Effor  Foundation announced a donation of One hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N150m) to the community.

According to the Retired AIG "we pray this will never happen again, not only in Jigawa State but in any part of our Nation".

While in his response Jigawa State governor Malam Umar Namadi expressed his appreciation to the Northern Governors and Emeka Effor Foundation for the compassion and solidarity. He disclosed the death of  about 171 people, with 75 in different hospitals. According to the governor 60% are youths between the ages of 17-35. 

Namadi further informed the gathering that his government has taken proactive measures to the crisis, he said relief materials have already been provided to the affected community. He assured all donors, that donations will be judiciously used and reach the target beneficiaries.

Northern Governors were represented during the visit by the Governors of Gombe, Bauchi states, with five state governors represented by their Deputies, including Katsina, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe and Taraba states.

It should be recalled that early this week a devastating fire incident occurred at Majiya town of Taura local government Area of Jigawa state as a result of an accident by an Oil Tanker in the town which claimed a lot of lives with many people hospitalized.
